Middlesex County Sheriff's Office 6th annual D.A.R.E. Jr. Academy
The Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office is excited to announce our 6th annual D.A.R.E. –Jr. Academy this summer. Due to an increased interest in the D.A.R.E. program, Sheriff Mildred Scott decided to implement a summer program for all (children entering) 5th/6th grade and 7th/8th grade in Middlesex County in the 2025-2026 school year.
This program will include the D.A.R.E. program, as well as a Junior Police Academy. The 5th and 6th grade program will run for two weeks, from Monday, July 21st to Friday, August 1st 8:30am-3:00pm (M-F). The 7th and 8th grade program will run for two weeks, from Monday August 11th to Friday August 22nd. The $150 fee per child will include a T-shirt, a ball cap, a water bottle, supplies and a graduation party at commencement.
Our D.A.R.E. Jr. Police Academy class will be held at the Perth Amboy Magnet School, 457 High Street, Perth Amboy, NJ 08861. Jr. Recruits will be responsible for bringing their own lunches and snacks, as well as their own “gym style” shorts (fingertip length at least) and sneakers. Our daily routine will include roll calls, platoon formation, D.A.R.E. lessons, lunch, drill, multiple demos and police lessons, and daily P.T. (physical training).
We are limited to 50 seats, so please contact the office as soon as possible to reserve your spot, spaces fill up quickly. Registration will only be confirmed once we have the completed forms with payment.

Undersheriff David Q. Irizarry
David Q. Irizarry is the Undersheriff of the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office. He was sworn in on February 5, 2024.
Undersheriff Irizarry’s journey in law enforcement began in 1990 as a Middlesex County sheriff’s officer, before he was sworn in as a patrolman with the Metuchen Borough Police Department in 1992. During his tenure at Metuchen Borough Police Department, Irizarry demonstrated exceptional leadership, ascending through the ranks to detective (2001), detective sergeant (2006), lieutenant (2008), and captain (2011), before being named chief of police in 2015. He was the first Hispanic police chief in Metuchen.
Undersheriff Irizarry led the Metuchen Borough Police Department until his retirement from the department in June 2022. However, his dedication to public service remained unwavering, and he embraced the role of coordinator of emergency planning for New Brunswick Public Schools until his return to the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office in February 2024.
In 2010, Undersheriff Irizarry graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. His training and extensive experience from more than three decades in law enforcement make him a vital asset in ensuring the safety and security of Middlesex County residents.
Born and raised in Edison, Undersheriff Irizarry lives in South Plainfield with his wife and two children, both of whom are college students.
Middlesex County Sheriff Mildred S. Scott proudly swore in 8 new Sheriff’s Officers in January 2025. All graduated from the Mercer County Police Academy class after weeks of training that began on September 5, 2024.
George Palomino hails from North Brunswick and attended the local high school and Middlesex College.
Alfred S. Bispo lives in Edison and graduated from Edison High School.
Jeff Marinez is also from Edison and went to Edison High School.
Joseph Lioto comes from North Brunswick and graduated from East Carolina University.
Joseph Sautner, from Keansburg, graduated from the local high school.
Vincent Snee lives in Woodbridge and is currently attending William Patterson University.
Frank Kerekes is from Carteret and graduated from Middlesex College.
Jenassy Mateo, from Cape May County, graduated from Middlesex College and Montclair State University.
Middlesex County Sheriff Mildred S. Scott proudly swore in 13 new Sheriff’s Officers on January 27, 2023. All 13 newly sworn officers hail from various towns and backgrounds and all graduated from the Mercer County Police Academy Class 26-21 after weeks of training that began on August 29, 2022.

Henderson Mautes, 25, from South River, NJ graduated from Sayreville War Memorial High School. Mautes worked in Health Services in administration before joining the Sheriff’s office. An active basketball player, Mautes served as a captain of his school team lading them to victory. He continues to pursue his love for basketball game via coaching of varsity and junior varsity team as a coach.
Tristan Miranda, 22, from Woodbridge graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a degree in Criminology. Miranda won many academic accolades from his university and different state offices. He is also an athlete with a strong performance record in football and track. He continued to play football in college and is involved in the community as a voluntary football coach. Miranda was selected as the PT award winner in his graduating class from Mercer County Police Academy for his outstanding performance.
Terrance Fox, married with 2 kids, is from Piscataway and graduated from university of New Hampshire on a football scholarship. He tried out for Baltimore Ravens before moving back to New Jersey. He continues to pursue his love of sports by coaching and training young athletes.
