Who We Are:

The primary duty of the Sheriff is the security of the County courthouses and protecting all personnel assigned to these facilities. This function is one of several duties mandated by the New Jersey Constitution. Some other examples of the duties carried out by the Sheriff that impact the daily lives of Middlesex County residents include the transportation division is responsible for transporting inmates to and from the courthouse as well as to and from other law enforcement departments and correctional facilities throughout the state.

Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office is committed to protecting life and property. We are dedicated to affording all citizens with law enforcement excellence and shall perform our duties in a proficient and effective manner. While performing the customary services of the Sheriff, we remain ready to strengthen and enhance all other law enforcement organizations. We acknowledge that the aptitude needed to effectively complete our mission is based on collective joint deference and dependability shared between the Sheriff’s Office, federal, state, county and municipal agencies, and the citizens we serve. As professionals, we are obligated to enforce the laws in a just and unbiased approach, while realizing the statutory and judicial limitations of our authority. In accomplishing our goal of law enforcement excellence, we will steadfastly protect the constitutional rights of every person.

On-site Assessment

The Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of its program to achieve accreditation by verifying that it meets recognized professional best practices.

Administered by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with best practice standards in five basic areas: the administrative , the personnel , the operations , the investigative , and the arrestee/detainee functions.

Agency employees and the public were invited to offer comments on Monday, April 26, 2021 . Comments will be taken by the Assessment Team. Email comments can be sent to the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office at accreditation@co.middlesex.nj.us.

Body Worn Cameras

The Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office is proud to join the growing ranks of law enforcement agencies that deployed Body Worn Cameras (BWCs) on their law enforcement officers. The BWCs will be used in accordance with the New Jersey Attorney General Guidelines. Body Worn Cameras (BWCs) serve a vital role for both the law enforcement community and society as a whole. When used properly in accordance with policy, BWCs are a powerful deterrent to inappropriate and unlawful behavior by all those involved and present during an encounter between law enforcement and the public. Furthermore, BWC recordings are a means to enhance the transparency of law enforcement operations, often providing more complete and objective evidence that benefits all. Below are photos of the device and how our officers and detectives will be wearing the Body Worn Cameras.
