About REPLENISH

The initial initiative, known as MCFOODS (Middlesex County Food Organization and Outreach Distribution Services), was established in 1994 to address food insecurity and ensure access to nutritionally adequate food and essential items for all Middlesex County residents. This endeavor was spearheaded by then Freeholder Jane Z. Brady and the Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners.

What began as a modest operation in a single closet within a Roosevelt Park police building has grown into a comprehensive countywide network. In its first year, MCFOODS distributed 92,000 pounds of nonperishable food and necessities to approximately 30 partner agencies. Today, REPLENISH operates from an 8,500-square-foot warehouse in East Brunswick and, in 2025 alone, received and distributed more than 5.1 million pounds of food—including fresh produce, dairy, and meat—to a broad network of community partners across Middlesex County.

This growth is made possible through the continued dedication of staff and volunteers whose time, energy, and commitment remain central to REPLENISH’s success.

REPLENISH is overseen by the Middlesex County Department of Community Services, with the support of the Board of County Commissioners and nonprofit partner Feeding Middlesex County. Together, these partners form a collaborative network focused on advancing food security throughout the region.

What is Food Security?

According to the Office of the Food Security Advocate (OFSA), food security exists when all people, at all times, have physical, social, and economic access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food which meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life.

Who is Feeding Middlesex County?

Founded in 2017, Feeding Middlesex County (FMC) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that plays a vital supporting role in REPLENISH’s mission. Operated entirely by volunteers, FMC raises funds through individual donations, corporate and government grants, and sponsorships to purchase food for distribution for REPLENISH.

Monetary contributions provide the flexibility to procure high-need items in bulk at wholesale prices, ensuring resources are directed where they are needed most, increasing the impact of each contribution.

Annual Co-Hosted Community Events

REPLENISH and Feeding Middlesex County host several signature events each year to raise food, funds, and awareness in support of food security initiatives:

  • Hunger Hero Awards – Recognizes community members who make a meaningful impact on food security during Hunger Action Month.
  • Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot – A 5K run and family-friendly walk at Raritan Bay Waterfront Park that raises food and funds.
  • Dine Below the Line – A friendly cooking competition that transforms pantry staples into healthy, nutritious meals.
  • Plays-in-the-Park – Collects monetary and food donations during the annual summer performances at Roosevelt Park.

Mission

REPLENISH collaborates with dedicated partners to establish food security for residents by providing nutritious, culturally relevant foods and nurturing community connections.

Vision

Empowering the community so every neighbor is nourished and able to thrive.
