Who Can Be a Poll Worker?

• You must be a registered voter in Middlesex County.
• You must be able to read and speak English.
• You must be at least 18 years of age to work a full day.
  
  • If you are 16 or 17 years old, you may work half a day as a poll worker.
• You must engage in a mandatory poll worker training, which is required every two years.

What Does a Poll Worker Do?

• Works at the polling place on Election Day from 5:15 am – at least 9 pm.
• Sets up polling locations with tables, chairs, voting machines, and all voting supplies.
• Aids voters needing assistance at the polling place.
• Maintains order in polling locations.

Poll workers are compensated for their efforts and time. If you are interested in becoming a poll worker, please complete the application, and send it to the Middlesex County Board of Elections.

Please review the following information regarding poll worker training for the upcoming election:

**Existing Poll Workers:** If you are an existing poll worker, you may need to undergo retraining. If you are unsure whether you need retraining, please call 732-745-3471 for more information.

**New Poll Workers:** All new poll workers are required to complete training before they can be credentialed to work in the election. Training will begin on Monday, May 5, 2025.

For existing poll workers who were selected before April 1, 2025, please schedule your training as soon as possible before the election. The Board will not create new classes once existing classes have expired. If training is not completed before the election, untrained workers will receive the untrained rate.

New poll workers or last-minute replacements must complete their training by Saturday, June 7, 2025. For training details, please call 732-745-3471. Every effort will be made to provide training before the deadline for new poll workers.
