The revitalization of a transformed new and improved train station in New Brunswick is further solidifying Middlesex County’s place among the most innovative Counties in the region, with facilities focused on all aspects of quality of life for our residents!

The Middlesex County Improvement Authority (MCIA) is managing the renovation efforts on the over 120-year-old New Brunswick Train Station, on behalf of t NJ TRANSIT. This nearly $70 million project will transform and modernize a critical outlet on the Northeast Corridor Line, the New Brunswick Train Station.

A multi-phase construction process started in September 2025 with initial work on:

  • improving the safety of the sidewalk and the exterior along Easton Avenue and Albany Street
  • A new ticketing center featuring an elevator and waiting areas

Upcoming phases of construction will deliver comprehensive upgrades to the station, including:

  • Renovations to the westbound and eastbound platforms
  • Expanded pedestrian transfer passages
  • Modernized waiting areas and entrance signage
  • State-of-the-art trainway and building systems
  • Extensive site work and landscaping enhancements

Once complete, the revitalized New Brunswick Train Station will offer commuters, visitors, and residents a safer, more efficient, and welcoming experience. The County anticipates a dramatic influx of commuters with the advent of the new HELIX development, the Jack & Sheryl Morris Cancer Center, the expanding Rutgers University footprint, and the growing dining and cultural scene in New Brunswick.
