MIDDLESEX COUNTY PROSECUTOR LINDA ESTREMERA
Prosecutor Linda Estremera, who was sworn in on December 31, 2025, brings over 25 years of leadership, dedication and courtroom experience as an Assistant Prosecutor at the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office. Known for her unwavering commitment to justice and while serving the community, Estremera has built a career centered on advocacy, mentorship, and most importantly public service.
As Deputy First Assistant Prosecutor, Estremera lead multiple Trial Teams and ensured consistent enforcement of the Graves Act, which implicates mandatory penalties for gun-related crimes. As third in command, Prosecutor Estremera supported the office’s mission to uphold justice with integrity and fairness, throughout the entire process from investigation to arrest and ultimate prosecution.
Prior to being appointed as Deputy First Assistant Prosecutor, Estremera wore many hats in supervisory positions within the office, since 2009; Trial Team Leader, Zone Prosecutor and Section Chief of the Juvenile Unit. She has overseen and prosecuted serious cases, including homicides, aggravated assaults, sexual offenses and aggravated arsons. Estremera did so always with a focus on supporting victims and working closely with law enforcement.
Estremera is especially passionate about juvenile justice as it was the unit she was first assigned to and in later years supervised as the Section Chief. She has assisted in initiatives like the Middlesex County Clean Slate Program, which promotes early intervention and diversion for youth, and has played a key role in county-wide efforts to improve outcomes for young people in the juvenile justice system.
Her journey began with a clerkship at the Superior Court of Middlesex County Special Civil and Landlord tenant courts. Thereafter a clerkship at the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Appellate Unit, just prior to ascending in January 2000 to the position of Assistant Prosecutor, the first Hispanic to assume that role in that county.
She earned her law degree from the City University of New York School of Law, where she was actively involved in advocacy for Battered Women’s Rights and the provision of bilingual legal services. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in the administration of justice from Rutgers University.
Prosecutor Estremera is a proud Latina of Puerto Rican heritage, born and raised in Jersey City. She is fluent in Spanish. Estremera continues to serve her community not only through her legal work but also as a member of several professional organizations, including the Middlesex County and Hispanic Bar Associations, and the Middlesex County Opioid Settlement Advisory Council.
Estremera’s career reflects a deep belief in justice, compassion, and the power of collaboration with the various stakeholders of the Criminal Justice System in Middlesex County. Whether she’s in the courtroom, guiding young attorneys, working with victims and their families, or working in tandem with other law enforcement agencies, Estremera brings passion and purpose to ever endeavor she undertakes.
Prosecutor Estremera intends to focus on:
- Prosecution of violent offenders;
- Community outreach;
- Diversity in the office;
- Impeding the schools to prison pipeline;
- And divert appropriate offenders out of the Criminal Justice System.
