Commissioner Chanelle Scott McCullum was sworn into the Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners on April 21, 2021, and elected in November 2021 for a one-year unexpired term.
As Chair of the Economic Development Committee, she oversees strategic investments in workforce training, education, and the arts. Her leadership supports programs through Middlesex College, Middlesex County Magnet Schools, the Office of Workforce and Career Development, and the Arts Institute of Middlesex County, as well as the County’s Cultural and Arts Trust Fund.
Since launching the Educators Summit in 2021, Commissioner McCullum continues to foster collaboration among educators, law enforcement, and municipal leaders. Her leadership helped shape several community driven projects, including the FolkLIVE Series:Gospel Festival, Pow Wow and Mexican Folkloric Festival, Business Summit and the Health Workforce Partnership, each designed to promote cultural engagement, economic growth, and employment opportunities across Middlesex County.
Commissioner McCullum served on the Piscataway Township Council from 2013–2021, including two terms as Council President. As a member of the Piscataway Township Council, she was part of the team responsible for the development of the $32 million Piscataway Community Center project—union-built at no cost to local taxpayers—and founded the annual “Walk for Your Health” wellness event, which continues to inspire community participation and preventative awareness. She has been a member of the Community Outreach Advisory Board and served on the board of trustees for Sterling Village, supporting senior living.
A licensed pharmacist since 1991, she holds a B.S. in Pharmacy from Howard University (magna cum laude) and a Doctorate Degree in Pharmacy from Shenandoah University. She has worked for over 25 years in pharmaceutical research and development. She was also honored with the Chauncey I. Cooper Award from Howard University for her contributions to pharmacy and community service.
Born in Perth Amboy and raised in Piscataway, she is the daughter of Sheriff Mildred S. Scott and Lt. Richard Scott. She is a member of GirlTrek and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
She lives in Piscataway with her husband, Dr. Larry McCullum Sr., and enjoys spending time with family and close friends.
