MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ – On Thursday, April 30, 2026, Middlesex County gathered with government and law enforcement officials for AARP New Jersey’s Online Scams and Cybercrime: How to Stay Protected event at the East Franklin Fire Department Hall in Franklin Township. The program was part of AARP New Jersey’s April Fraud Blitz, held during AARP Fraud Prevention Month to raise awareness of fraud targeting older adults nationwide through free educational events and resources.

Middlesex County Commissioner Charles Kenny spoke during the Fighting Fraud on a Local Level portion of the event, highlighting how the County works to raise awareness and protect residents through a multi-office effort that includes the Office of the County Sheriff, the Office of the County Prosecutor, the Office of the County Clerk, the Office of Consumer Affairs, and the Office of Aging and Disabled Services.

The event aimed to empower adults aged 50 and older with tools and resources to recognize and protect themselves from cybercriminal behavior, including common online scams, risks associated with cryptocurrency kiosks, and the misuse of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), that may put their financial and personal information at risk.
