Juvenile Male Taken into Custody for Homicide

Middlesex County Prosecutor Linda Estremera and Chief Daniel Plumacker of the Sayreville Police Department announced today that a 16-year-old juvenile male has been taken into custody and charged with acts of juvenile delinquency for offenses which if committed by an adult would constitute Murder, Possession of a Handgun for Unlawful Purpose, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, and Armed Riot in connection with a homicide that occurred in Sayreville on January 9, 2026.

On January 9, 2026, at 10:58 P.M., authorities received 911 call reporting shots fired. Upon their arrival to Woods Edge Court in the Parlin section of Sayreville, they discovered a 17-year-old male from East Brunswick with a gunshot wound. The 17-year-old male was pronounced deceased at the scene.

An investigation led by Detective Mark Nairooz of Sayreville Police Department and Detective Ryan Kirsh of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office led to the arrest of a 16-year-old male from Sayreville Moreover, the 17-year-old male and 16-year-old male knew each other prior to the incident, thus it was not a random act of violence.

The 16-year-old is being held at the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center awaiting a preliminary hearing before a Family Court Judge.

As with all criminal defendants, the charges against the juvenile are just allegations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
