Middlesex County Prosecutor Linda Estremera and Chief Thomas Bryan of the Edison Police Department announced today that a 17-year-old juvenile male has been taken into custody and charged with acts of juvenile delinquency for offenses which if committed by an adult would constitute Aggravated Manslaughter, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, and Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose in connection with a homicide that occurred in Edison during the early morning hours of January 10, 2026.
On January 10, 2026, at 1:19 A.M., authorities received a 911 call reporting a shooting. Upon their arrival to a residence on Grove Avenue, they discovered a 17-year-old female from Edison with a gunshot wound. The 17-year-old female was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A 17-year-old male from Plainfield, who was at the scene was taken into custody and charged. Moreover, the 17-year-old female and the 17-year-old male knew each other prior to the incident, thus it was not a random act of violence.
The 17-year-old is being held at the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center awaiting a preliminary hearing before a Family Court Judge.
This is an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Spielman of the Edison Police Department at 732-248-7471 or Detective Redline of the Middlesex County Prosecutors Office at 732-745-3316.
As with all criminal defendants, the charges against the juvenile are just allegations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
