Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Vincent Sabo of the New Brunswick Police Department announced today that a homicide is under investigation in the City of New Brunswick.

On October 8, 2025, at approximately 11:32 P.M., authorities responded to Pine Street Park following a report of an unconscious male. Upon their arrival, officers located the male victim, Fernando Buezo Diaz, 18, of New Brunswick, who sustained gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Initial investigation has revealed that this does not appear to be a random act of violence and there does not appear to be a threat to the public.
