MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ – Middlesex County is providing voters in New Jersey with many easy and accessible ways to cast their vote in the 2025 Primary Election on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. Those options include mailing ballots through the United States Postal Service (USPS) or dropping a ballot in any of the 30+ secure drop boxes across the County; six days of in-person early voting at any of the 10 early vote locations in the County; or voting in person at their assigned polling location on Primary Election Day, Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

“Voting is one of the most fundamental rights and responsibilities of our democracy, and every vote plays a crucial role in shaping the future of our communities,” said Middlesex County Commissioner Director Ronald G. Rios. “Whether voting early, by mail, or in person on Election Day, I encourage all eligible voters to make their voices heard and participate in this important civic duty.”

Pinkin. “We value their participation in each election and strongly encourage people to make a voting plan for the best method for them. We encourage youth civic engagement and voting. We want and need our young adults to take an active part in the public life of their communities and make voting a lifelong habit.”

ABOUT PRIMARY ELECTIONS

Primary elections allow voters who are registered to a political party, such as the Democratic Party or Republican Party, to select the candidates who will represent their party in the November General Election. To participate in the Primary Election, residents must be registered to vote in Middlesex County by Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

GUIDELINES FOR UNAFFILIATED VOTERS

Unaffiliated voters who are registered to vote may choose to vote in either the Democratic Primary Election or the Republican Primary Election. If voting in person, either early or on Primary Election Day, an unaffiliated voter will declare their party affiliation at the polls before voting in the Primary Election. 

Only registered Democratic and Republican voters are eligible to receive a mail-in ballot for the Primary Election. Unaffiliated voters may still cast their vote for the primary election in person during early voting or on Primary Election Day, June 10, 2025. They will then be registered as members of the party they cast their vote for from that point forward. A voter must submit a change of party affiliation form to become a registered unaffiliated voter again.

If an unaffiliated voter would like to receive a mail-in ballot by mail for the 2025 Primary Election, they must declare their party affiliation with either the Democratic or Republican Party. A political affiliation declaration must be returned by June 3, 2025, to receive a mail-in ballot by mail or by 3 pm on June 9, 2025, to receive a mail-in ballot in person.

Middlesex County has created a convenient, easy-to-use resource to learn about how to vote in the Primary Election. It can be found at middlesexcountynj.gov/vote. 

HOW TO VOTE IN THE 2025 PRIMARY ELECTION

There are three ways to vote in the 2025 Primary Election:

• Vote by Mail
• In-person early voting locations will be open Tuesday, June 3, through Saturday, June 7, from 10 am-8 pm, and Sunday, June 8, from 10 am- 6 pm. No appointment is necessary.
• Registered voters may vote in person on Primary Election Day, Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at their assigned polling location. Polling locations will be open from 6 am-8 pm.

VOTE BY MAIL

Registered voters who are not already on the permanent Vote-by-Mail list and wish to vote from the comfort of their home can submit a Mail-In Ballot request in writing by filling out a Mail-In Ballot Application found on the Middlesex County website. A physical signature is required.

The County Clerk's office must receive Mail-In Ballot Applications submitted by mail no later than seven days prior to Primary Election Day. For the June 2025 Primary Election, Mail-In Ballot Applications sent via mail must be received by the County Clerk’s Office by Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

Voters may apply for a Mail-In Ballot in person or by authorized messenger at the Office of the County Clerk at 26 Kennedy Boulevard, Suite B, East Brunswick up to 3 pm on Monday, June 9 (the day before the election).

Voters can choose one of the following options to return their Mail-In Ballot:

• Mail the ballot through the United States Postal Service. Mail-In Ballots must be postmarked on or before 8 pm on Primary Election Day, Tuesday, June 10, 2025.
• Take it directly to the Board of Elections’ Office, 26 Kennedy Boulevard, Suite B, East Brunswick by 8 pm on Primary Election Day, Tuesday, June 10, 2025.
• Drop the ballot in a designated Middlesex County Board of Elections drop box by 8 pm on June 10, 2025. 
• A list of drop boxes located in every municipality throughout the County can be found here on the County’s website. Drop boxes are maintained by the Middlesex County Board of Elections, are secure, and are monitored 24/7 by video surveillance. Ballots are collected from drop boxes on a regular basis.

VOTING EARLY IN PERSON

Registered voters who have not requested a Mail-In Ballot may cast their ballot in person using a voting machine during a six-day Early Voting Period prior to Primary Election Day at any of the 10 early voting locations in Middlesex County. Voters can choose to vote in person when it is most convenient for their schedule.

A poll worker can scan a voter’s sample ballot or driver’s license, if the voter’s registration record includes their driver's license number, into the Electronic Pollbook to greatly expedite the check-in process.

In-person early voting locations will be open Tuesday, June 3 through Sunday, June 8 for the 2025 Primary Election. The hours will be Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am-8 pm and Sunday, 10 am-6 pm. No appointment is necessary.

In-person early voting polling sites are located in 10 municipalities throughout Middlesex County, including:

• East Brunswick
• Edison
• Monroe
• New Brunswick
• Old Bridge
• Perth Amboy
• Piscataway
• Sayreville
• South Brunswick
• Woodbridge

Vote-By-Mail Ballots CANNOT be returned to in-person early voting polling locations or Primary Election Day polling locations. 

Voters who receive a Mail-In Ballot but do not return their ballot may still vote in person by provisional ballot at an early voting location.

VOTING IN PERSON ON PRIMARY ELECTION DAY

In-person voting is available to all registered voters in Middlesex County. Click here to find your assigned polling location for the upcoming Primary Election. A voter's assigned polling location can also be found in the top left corner of their sample ballot, which will be mailed the week prior to the Primary Election.
