Freeholders Invite You to Plays-in-the-Park’s “West Side Story”

July 6, 2017
Join us at Plays-in-the-Park from July 12-22 for West Side Story.

Middlesex County’s Plays-in-the-Park is proud to present the second musical of its 2017 season, “West Side Story.”
This romantic drama updates “Romeo and Juliet” to 1950s New York City, where young lovers are threatened by prejudice and gang violence. The timeless story, the music of Leonard Bernstein and the lyrics of Stephen Sondheim have combined to make “West Side Story” one of the all-time classics of American musical theater.

The show runs from July 12-22 (no show Sunday.) All performances begin at 8 p.m. and are staged at the Stephen J. Capestro Amphitheater inside Middlesex County’s Roosevelt Park in Edison.

PIP is sponsored by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Middlesex County Office of Parks and Recreation.

“‘West Side Story’s’ universal themes and stirring score make it an ideal choice for Plays-in-the-Park,” said Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios. “I know the cast, the musicians, and the production crew will do an outstanding job of bringing this powerful story to life. Break a leg, everyone!”

Freeholder Charles Kenny, Chair of the Infrastructure Management Committee, said: ‘“West Side Story’ has been a favorite for generations of theatergoers. I know that many people will be excited to see this new production and to share it with their families.”

Tickets cost $7 for adults and $5 for seniors (60+). Children 12 and under are admitted for free.

Tickets can be purchased only on the nights of performances. The box office opens at 5:30 p.m. on show nights and closes at 8:30 p.m.
