Middlesex County Clerk Releases List of Veteran Friendly Merchants and Organizations

November 7, 2014

Middlesex County Clerk Elaine M. Flynn announced that a new list of veteran friendly merchants and organizations has been made available and can be obtained through the Middlesex County Clerk’s Office.

This booklet contains the names of businesses and companies that offer a discount to veterans with proof of military service and can be used in conjunction with the County Service ID Card. The County Service ID Card is available free of charge to all U.S. military veterans living within the County.

Flynn said the Clerk's Office is offering the card to better serve Middlesex County veterans and make it easier for them to qualify for certain benefits. “Filing for this new card creates a permanent record in the County Clerk’s Office in the event your DD-214 (discharge papers) becomes lost or damaged, and is needed as proof for property tax deductions or for VA Benefits,” she said.

Flynn also added that the card can be used to participate in various discount programs and the new booklet of Veteran Friendly Merchants and Organizations makes participating merchants easier to find.

Veterans can get their Service Card and booklet by visiting the County Clerk's Office in the Middlesex County Administration Building at 75 Bayard Street in New Brunswick Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. There is no charge for either benefit and no appointment is required.

Please bring original DD-214 to be recorded by the County Clerk’s office along with one of the following: a driver’s license, business mail or property tax bill. Married females requesting Service Cards listing a name other than what appears on their DD-214, must also present legal documents that show that name change.

“As a County government, we are consistently seeking out new services that work to benefit our residents,” said Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios. “Because military papers can get damaged or lost, I urge Middlesex County veterans to take advantage of this opportunity and file copies of their DD-214 with the Clerk’s Office and to take advantage of the list of discount opportunities.”

“I want to commend the County Clerk’s Office for making this new card and list of merchants available,” said Freeholder Blanquita Valenti, chair of the County’s Department of Community Services.  “This initiative is a great addition to our successful programming for our veterans, including the new Housing Assistance program,” Armwood said. “It is another way we can give back to the men and women who have put themselves into harm’s way to protect our freedom.”
