Freeholders Invite You to Plays-in-the-Park’s “Disney’s Mary Poppins”

Join us Aug. 2 through 12 (no show Sunday, Aug. 6). All performances begin at 8 p.m. at the Stephen J. Capestro Amphitheater located in Middlesex County’s Roosevelt Park in Edison.

​Middlesex County’s Plays-in-the-Park is proud announce the third and final production of its 2017 season, “Disney’s Mary Poppins.” This musical is based on the beloved Disney film and P.L. Travers stories about a nanny who brings a troubled family together using her own special brand of magic.

The show runs Aug. 2-12 (no show Sunday, Aug. 6). All performances begin at 8 p.m. and are staged at the Stephen J. Capestro Amphitheater located in Middlesex County’s Roosevelt Park in Edison. The play will be directed by Alan Van Antwerp, with choreography by Megan Ferentinos and musical direction by John Brzozowski.

“ ‘Mary Poppins’ looks to be a fun and impressive ending to this year’s season of Plays-in-the-Park,” said Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios. “I know the cast, crew and staff will make this a show to remember for all our residents. Break a leg!”

Freeholder Charles Kenny, chairman of the Infrastructure Management Committee, said: “ ‘Mary Poppins’ is an ideal show for families to enjoy together, especially as a way to introduce kids to the magic of live music and theater. I know the production will be a great success.”

Tickets for shows can be purchased only on the nights of performances. The box office opens at 5:30 p.m. on show nights and closes at 8:30 p.m. Tickets cost $7 for adults and $5 for seniors (60+). Children 12 and under are admitted for free.

The Middlesex County Freeholders are proud to offer complimentary admission to the summer musicals to active U.S. Military Service members and their immediate families.

Proper ID is required when picking up tickets.

Complimentary tickets also are available for veterans and a guest on the Monday and Tuesday performances of each show. Please call the Parks Office for more information. 

Audience members must provide their own seating. All chair backs must not exceed 40 inches high.

If a performance is cancelled due to inclement weather, you may save your ticket and use it to attend any other PIP performance at no additional charge. Ticket stubs are valid up to one year after the cancelled performance.

There will be Audio Description, Sign Language Interpretation and Open Captioning at the following performances:

Audio Description – Friday, Aug. 4 (Rain Date Saturday, Aug. 5)
Open Captioning – Monday, Aug. 7 (Rain Date Tuesday, Aug. 8)
Sign Language Interpretation – Wednesday, Aug. 9 (Rain Date Thursday, Aug. 10)

Plays-in-the-Park represents a unique collaboration between community theater and local government since 1963. PIP is sponsored by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Middlesex County Office of Parks and Recreation.

Plays-in-the-Park’s mission is to recreate the quality and intent of the original Broadway productions of these shows.
