County Reminds Residents That Voter Registration is Free

August 22, 2014

The Middlesex County Clerk’s Office would like to inform residents to be wary of any website or organization that charges a fee to process voter registration.
“A private website reportedly charges users $9.95 to fill out their information and have it sent to the state for processing,” said Middlesex County Clerk Elaine M. Flynn. “Though this site is considered legal, I thought it was important to remind residents that voting is a right to citizens of the United States, and it should never cost money to vote or to register to vote.”
“I would like to thank the County Clerk for making our residents aware of this website,” said Middlesex County Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios. “No one should have to pay for the right to vote. All residents can register to vote for free through the County’s Board of Elections office.”
Voter registration forms are available online at, from the Middlesex County Board of Elections (777 Jersey Ave, New Brunswick, 08901), or from your local Municipal Clerk’s office. All forms are postage paid and after completing the form and signing it, you can fold it in three (with the address on the outside) and drop it in the mail.
“If a voter moves and goes to their Motor Vehicle Commission to change their license, and indicate on the paperwork that they wish to have their “new” information used for “Voter Registration” purposes, we will get the information from Motor Vehicle Commission and then make the appropriate updates to their official voter record,” said James Vokral, administrator of the Middlesex County Board of Elections.
The Board of Elections’ normal operating hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays.
