Middlesex County to Host Fishing Derby

May 14, 2014
Families are invited to attend Middlesex County's first ever Fishing Derby.

You and your family are invited to take part in Middlesex County’s very first Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 14, 2014. The event will take place, rain or shine, at the Pond in Johnson Park, River Road, Piscataway.
All fishing will be catch and release. Participants will be divided into the following age groups: ages 4-7; ages 8-10; and ages 11-14.
Prizes (for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place) will be awarded for each age group -- whoever catches the longest fish wins!
“The Fishing Derby is a great way for families to get together and enjoy the County’s beautiful parks,” said Freeholder Charles E. Tomaro, chair of the County’s Infrastructure Management Committee. “I wish all the participants the best of luck.”
“This is a first for Middlesex County, and I think the event will be enjoyable for all ages,” said Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios. “Middlesex County prides itself on the beautiful landscapes of our parks, and this is another chance for our residents to view and enjoy them.”
Admission and participation in the Derby are free. Please make sure to bring your own equipment, including poles and bait.
Check-in runs from 8:30 to 9 a.m.
Fishing will begin promptly at 9 a.m. and end at 10:30 a.m. Finally, winners will be announced between 10:30 and 11 a.m.
