The Middlesex County Hazardous Materials Unit is the primary emergency response unit for hazardous material incidents within the county. This specially trained unit is comprised of 14 career personnel who provide 24 hour/7 day a week coverage to the county’s residents and visitors. There are over 3,000 facilities that work with hazardous materials, in addition to the hundreds of hazardous materials that travel throughout the county’s highways, railways, pipelines, and ports every single day. The unit’s personnel are extensively trained up to the Specialist level in various disciplines. Also, the unit works closely with various agencies including other county agencies, police departments, fire departments, and the NJ Department of Environmental Protection to ensure the utmost protection and safety for the citizens and visitors of Middlesex County.
