Get Involved with your Community

The Office of Arts & History volunteers are neighbors, college students, retired persons, business people, artists, and individuals just like you. Your skills and interests will be matched with the needs of the Office. Organized groups can also volunteer. All individuals are encouraged to apply as all our sites and programs are completely accessible.

WHAT WILL YOU DO
You will assist with educational programs conducted by historians, artists, educators and staff. Some volunteers conduct tours, others assist with public programs, workshops and events. You may volunteer behind the scenes; with mailings, telephone queries, or setting up displays.  Volunteer opportunities are available at the Cornelius Low House Museum, East Jersey Old Town Village, or general community projects.

SCHEDULES
We need people who are outgoing and cheerful, who are interested in art, history and cultural traditions, enjoy interacting with the public, from young people to senior citizens. Schedules are flexible, with days, evenings and weekends available.

STEPS TO BECOMING A VOLUNTEER
You can request an application by e-mail or telephone. Return the completed application. You will be contacted to arrange a time for you to come in to discuss your areas of interest.
All volunteers will be given the necessary training and orientation prior to beginning their duties.

RECOGNITION PROGRAM
Volunteers are very important to our programs and services, and play a critical role at the Middlesex County Office of
Arts & History. As a volunteer you will receive many benefits, such as meeting new people, using your skills and talents to improve your community, develop new skills and be recognized by your peers. Based on time logged, volunteers are acknowledged for their service to the County through a recognition program and gifts such as: a certificate, volunteer pin, plaque or volunteer sweater.
