The Tamarack Hollow Preserve was saved through the cooperative efforts of the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Township of East Brunswick in August of 2007. The 232-acre tract had been approved for 57 single family homes and a sewerage treatment facility that could have discharged up to 16,800 gallons of treated wastewater per day into local streams.
Instead of this development, the land remains as a patchwork of heavily wooded forest mixed with farmland that continues to support local agriculture. The gentle rolling terrain and variety of plants and animals make the Tamarack Hollow Preserve a top choice for passive activities such as hiking, walking, bird watching and photography. With two miles of hiking trails, Tamarack Hollow is a great family destination during both summer and winter.
