Location: Woodbridge Township
Parking: limited street-side parking—Omar Avenue, Woodbridge Township
Size: 97 Acres
Facilities: Hiking Trails, Gazebo, Butterfly Garden
In 2003, the County acquired this 97 acre property located along Omar and Rahway Avenues, at the headwaters of the Woodbridge River. The purchase of this property through the Open Space Trust Fund saved the site from being developed into warehouses, for which the land is zoned. The property is managed as the Earnest L. Oros Wildlife Preserve, through a co-operative agreement with Woodbridge Township and the non-profit
Woodbridge River Watch, who maintain the hiking trails, organize clean-ups and care for the butterfly garden. Threatened and endangered species, such as the red-headed woodpecker and black-crowned night heron have been observed.
